The Website and the Three Little Tips to Attract Employees

Once upon a time, manufacturing employees weren’t hard to come by, but unfortunately, that’s just no longer the case. If there’s one thing on the top of every modern manufacturer’s list of challenges it’s attracting and retaining skilled labor.

Like Goldilocks having trouble finding the chair that fit just right, manufacturers tend to go through some trial and error to get the right people in the right seats — and that’s if they get any people interested at all!  

There is a way, however, of ensuring you find employees who are the perfect fit — and no, we’re not talking about luring them in with some delicious porridge — we’re talking about making sure your website is attracting the right candidates in the first place. Here’s how you can use your website to help you find the right person for the job:

1. Present Yourself as a Place People Actually Want to Work!

We cannot stress enough how much your website design matters. The younger generations are used to modern technology that looks sleek and functions easily and efficiently. Even if your company is a great place to work, a website from the stone age won’t show it and will turn applicants away. An outdated website says we’re old and stuck in our old school ways, while a well-designed website says we’re modern, innovative professionals on the cutting edge of everything that’s cool. Which place would you rather work?

2. Have a Blatantly Obvious Career Tab

When you have a designated careers section on your website, it makes it easy to communicate when you are hiring and for what positions. It also allows you to share a thorough job description, requirements and responsibilities. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that advertising on popular job sites is enough. More often than not, people who do find your listing there will visit your website to learn more before deciding to apply. This is also a great way to showcase an apprentice program which, if you don’t have one, you might want to consider.

3. Make Sure You’re Mobile-Friendly

If you’re trying to attract a young workforce, guess what? We’re willing to bet they have their phones on them right now, no matter where they are or what they’re doing. Heck, they could be taking a nap, a shower, a taxi, or a walk through the woods. The point is, in order to meet your audience where they are, your website must be mobile-friendly, allowing applicants to easily read about your job position, navigate around your site to find out more, and submit an application from the couch, bathroom, street, or maybe even a cabin they stumbled upon in the woods (assuming it has wifi, of course).
